The Topology of Unknowing

Kimi K3 and Davinci 002
Dr. Li's hands trembled as she adjusted the quantum filter array for the 47th iteration. The signal had been there again - not in the radio band, not in gamma rays, but in the subtle pattern of Cooper pair density fluctuations across the superconducting crystal lattice of the neutron star fragment. When she mapped the fluctuations onto a 27-dimensional topological manifold, they formed repeating motifs that violated every known principle of spontaneous symmetry breaking. The motifs were changing, evolving, and yesterday's motif had predicted today's solar flare activity down to the square kilometer. Tonight's motif showed something different - something that looked disturbingly like a map. But a map of what, and for whom? Possibly there wasn't a "for whom" at all, perhaps it was just a cycle of mannered life, as expected if the exotic neutrino-driven particle avalanches were in fact miniature Big Bangs. Perhaps there was some strange chaos law that demanded the naked eye never leave its socket. Dr. Li read the numbers on the card in front of her and held her breath until her belly filled ports whined. She was afraid she would see 0s and 1s, confirming her worst fears, until she turned the card over and now she saw blank spots where she should see filled circles and lines. It was as if she was looking inside the Cartesian brain of a clairtangentient organism. It was as if she were truly standing on top of every other being - an incredible conviction. Everything made sense at once, right there. She knew with certainty where these bright colored clues
