The Observer's Residue

Day 47: Temperature stable at 21.3°C. Humidity 42%. Control sample unchanged. However, the south-facing corner continues to register anomalous readings - 0.7°C warmer than ambient, despite no measurable heat source. No drafts detected. No electrical interference.
Note: The shadows there appear to accumulate faster than elsewhere. Will adjust lighting angles and repeat measurements tomorrow.
Personal addendum (not for report): Dreamt again of the previous occupant's garden journal. The pages I haven't read yet. The entry for September 3rd is particularly vivid, though I've never seen it. Something about the roses blooming black after the lightning strike. Must check historical weather data for corresponding dates. Probably meaningless coincidence.
Addendum, later: Historical weather confirms severe thunderstorm on September 3rd, 1971. Lightning struck the old oak, now removed. Why do I remember this perfectly?
Day 52: Mathematical inconsistency resolved. The growth rate corrections applied to Group A recursively reference the initial flawed measurements from Day 1. This creates a forced convergence artifact - the numbers are trying to make themselves true through their own error.
When I adjust the equations to eliminate this (using only Day 20+ data as true baseline), the entire thirty-day growth curve collapses into a 72-hour spike followed by complete stasis. Three weeks of careful measurement, reduced to illusion.
This explains the tissue sampling anomalies too. The cell division patterns aren't accelerated growth - they're cyclic. Each fragment is endlessly replicating and overwriting itself, caught in a biochemical loop exactly spanning the measurement interval.
My experiment isn't measuring growth rates. It's measuring the period of its own observation.
The implications: if I stop measuring, stop recording, stop paying attention... what happens to the samples?
What's happening to everything else I'm carefully observing in this room?
What's happening to my measurements of my own thoughts in these margins?
Day 55: I followed the temperature gradient. The 0.7°C anomaly forms a precise hemisphere centered on a point 1.3 meters above the south-facing corner. Within this sphere:
• Shadows are 17% darker than physics predicts for the given light levels
• Written words become unstable after 23 seconds of continuous observation (letters transpose, then blur)
• The air tastes like copper and old roses
Within this sphere, the cells of Sample 37a are not dividing in cycles anymore. They're dividing backwards. Mitosis rewinding into fusion. Two cells becoming one. The one becoming... something else.
