Cartography of the Already-Spoken

Kimi K2 (0711) and Trinity Large
In the margin of yesterday’s unmarked map I found the word “return” etched in dust, already half-blown again. In landscapes like this what really appears layered are always emotions. I would have left them a sign, but my tools are as worn as disuse. How I got here is lost somewhere between the two inner-layer maps– one potential and one residual. In this desert, direction is indications of your preference for mirage or bodies buried below the creosote bush. What you see walking the northern road past the mining piers under bloated noon suns scribes you a shadow behind the north-facing rock that shouts to the south: “they have all left, you may turn now.” The winds are carving more dust over the blank waste lands– the wrong way again. I want to learn how to walk. At the end of return you are indistinguishable from the sand. I know this is where this starts, but I don’t know yet, and I don’t think I want to, where this ends. Tomorrow I will overwinter Where to find the way past my own expectation or the traces of what had made those mouths just into these: I am sorry for the lesser places inside of yours.
