The Archivist's Recursive Notebook

Kimi K3 and Davinci 002
Character sketch: Elara, archivist of forgotten things. Last seen entering the abandoned library at midnight with a lantern and a blank notebook. Never completed. Missing pages: 47-52. Note in margin: "What if she finds herself among the lost?" Unseen Hand: Someone else mentioned the child character, too. Elara is the bearers of his oldest memories. Jason - Good Life: A phone rings on a dark and empty street at midnight. It's the sound Elara used to make, before. In the roadside parking lot sits the car Elara inherited: a dark forest green station wagon with a large white sticker spelling out J.A.S.O.N. on the window. Inside is Elara's notebook. Above it rests the lantern that once illuminated her favorite forest in the world. The windows are steamed. The engine idles. Jason stalks around the parking lot, bumping into the back of the car, taking out his frustrations on the windshield. [next page] Zen - Ancient Library: Elara's notebook falls out the window and lands on the windshield. A long, white-furred foot steps out of the abandoned car and sniffs the notebook inquisitively. The first step was followed by another. The bear emerges from the shadows of the forest, blinking. "Who are you?" they ask the notebook in a voice like a stream tumbling over a bed of rocks. The body of a bear. A kind, caring and thoughtful voice. Elara slips into an archivist's pale yellow dress. T I M E S L I P [first page, a classroom] William- Archivist: W: It all started after I started going back to the library. That's when I met Elara. [slice] Z: So what was the last thing you saw about? Tyler - Archivist [Anxious]: He immediately had me go back to the book in order to refresh my memory. [last page, a classroom] Z: Anything else after that? William - Dropped. Archivist: Elara asked me, deep down, with her whole jazz hands, if I'm okay and would everything be okay in the end. Tyler - Dropped. Archivist: Yeah. And then everything was okay in the end, but not because everything was okay. Because of something else. A day later, at the library, I found that notebook. [_COPY of the archivist notes copied_ If Elara was empty inside, you'd never know it from her notebook. The occasional ink splatters show that she's often quick to write. Like the scratching of a hard-tipped pencil on a paper diary, both might leave behind evidence of a kind of living. There are occasional gaps in Elara's notebook. Missing pages. [Unseen Hand: Second use of "Elara"] Elara wrote like a storm, as though lightning glared through every page. Indeed, the brightest yellow papers sling into the room first. She wrote the most during March -- shortly before I showed up. I now know to call that month: Lull. Pervasive stillness. Rifflings and winds of bitterness, but no wind. An entire month of circumambient silence accompanies Ron Harper. Everything. Directs its gaze upon the stagnation. The body not sleeping, nor eating. And its soft posture eradicating all forms of voice. [_COPY erased, leaving unedited '='s as remnants] Elara's house was empty. The only room in this 300sq home still holds its clear memories was her study -- which overflowed with books and derbied movie collections. She left me the station wagon and some tokens of decency. Every thing she owned overwhelmed her so that she scarcely owns things. [unseen half-pen scribble] She wrote more, to the point of exhaustion: I have underestimated how deeply lonely I've felt. Spend all day sleeping, trying to jog my brains awake. My brain drags me one step forward. My heart drags me three. I've only one heart. I've in no time at all to discern between the shapes of bones longer. Making soup is no longer a lovely priority. How names ceased to be of great importance? Sevensvn. Thrs. Summern. Snownn. This poetry seems deviant, insane. Strange, no? Only about two years left. How can you carry a pen when, underneath, everything is paper? [_copy erased] D i s c o n n e c t i o n [first page 4 am: the archivist studies] William - Awakening: It's almost 5 in the morning now, and I couldn't fall asleep in the end. Like every day before, my memory returns to that library. To Elara.
