The Orb of First Knowing

Kimi K3 and Davinci 002
The librarian handed her a small glass orb, no larger than a marble. Inside, something silver-white pulsed gently, like a heartbeat made visible. "Be careful how you hold it," they warned, but their voice already sounded distant, muffled, as if coming from the wrong end of a telescope. The orb was warm against her palm, warmer than it should be, and she realized with growing horror that the pulse inside was syncing with her own heartbeat, beat for beat, perfectly synchronized, until she couldn't tell where she ended and it began. The realization that would change everything was already forming in her mind, crystallizing like frost on window glass, though she couldn't yet see its shape. She only knew, with absolute certainty, that she had been wrong about something fundamental her entire life, and that nothing would ever be the same again once she figured out exactly what it was.
