Every afternoon at 4:17, the elevator in Sarah's building stops between floors 3 and 4 for exactly six seconds longer than it should. Today, she timed it again. Six seconds. Six seconds where the numbers don't change, the lights flicker once, and she swears she hears rain falling somewhere far below, though the weather report said clear skies all week. Rain, she thinks. Why sweep her floors if there hasn't been rain for months? It occurs to her, belatedly, that she might stay up in this elevator the whole night...
