Sunlight caught the falling arc, turning water droplets into tiny prisms that scattered rainbows across her worn linoleum floor. In the living room, the phone began to ring. She counted the falling drops: one, two, three—each a separate universe spinning away from her palm. The glass would shatter. Unless it didn't.
