The Blue Marble Theory of Inheritance
Kimi K3 and Davinci 002
In the drawer of the weathered desk, beneath yellowed maps of countries that no longer exist, she found a single blue marble wrapped in a child's faded drawing of a house. The paper was labeled "Where We Will Go" in crayon letters that had bled slightly, as if the house itself were crying. She held the marble up to the window, and through its glass the entire world became an ocean, depthless and unreadable, with no shore in sight. She sat with the ball for the longest time, but when ice formed inside of it she opened her palm and allowed the marble to roll between her fingers like a lucky coin. As she did so, she thought how the ball had once belonged to another little girl, whose childhood had been cut short without ever seeing the ocean. Who would have grown up to tell the story of it, should she have seen it. And as the sun rose, she held the ball with both hands and told the story of the ocean to her unborn child, and kissed the coffee stain on its glass and imagined what the ocean would have been like, with no more◆ About the ending
