She watches her wedding dress circle in the industrial washer—three years divorced, still paying for dry-cleaning that never quite took. A quarter clutched in her palm has imprinted Lincoln's profile into her palm. She hasn't decided if she'll let the machine run its full cycle this time. She can't explain why she still cares about the stains, the washing out the pain, the way the detergent chews its way through the 99% polyester material that couldn't hold the whole of their lives together.
